Amber Trails
“Amber Trails” reflects the quiet beauty of a life lived close to the bush, where home is shaped by earth, stone and the changing colours of the seasons. Inspired by the warmth of home nestled among gum trees, the artwork carries rich autumn tones of ochre, rust and soft greens that mirror the natural landscape that surrounds it.
Built through layered textures, the piece creates depth that can be both seen and felt — echoing the rough surfaces of bark, weathered stone and mud brick. Native flowers emerge gently through the composition, while flowing journey lines move across the canvas like worn tracks through Country, telling stories of movement, belonging and connection. Subtle kangaroo tracks weave within these pathways, representing the quiet presence of wildlife and the enduring relationship between land and life.
Lower within the work, a gentle reference to the Yarra River brings a sense of life-giving sustenance — the quiet waterway that nourishes the land, supports its wildlife and has long carried stories through Country.
Three meeting places sit within the work, symbolising the stages of life — past, present and future — and the way each is connected through shared experience and story. Together, these elements create a deeply personal reflection of place, where home is not only where one lives, but where spirit, memory and Country remain forever intertwined.
